If place, atmosphere, fans, and venue are all determining factors in attending sporting events, then the Stanford University Cardinal Football games are a must see. To begin the storied history of the Stanford Football team should be enough for any sports enthusiast. Twelve conference titles, one Heisman winner, twenty seven all Americans, and one national title are just the beginning of a successful program. With various hall of famers, and other successful programs like basketball, there isn't any excuse to miss the games this year.
If history isn't enough, then the location itself will bring you out to the games. Stanford, California is located in Santa Clara County otherwise known as Silicon Valley. While the population of Stanford is just under 14,000, the population and urbanized area of the Silicon Valley are more than sufficient for travel and visits. Stanford is about 40 miles from San Francisco, about 120 miles from Sacramento, and very nearby San Jose, CA. With plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, the Stanford Football games are an excellent excuse to head west. Seating is not a problem when it comes to games as The Stanford Stadium housing Foster Field is one of the most beautiful venues in the Pac-12 (formerly Pac 10 Conference). The stadium holds about 50,000 die hard Cardinal Fans but seats are often available. The atmosphere for the games are intense as many other schools in the division. Traditions such as the Walk, Big Game, Marching Band and Fight Song are instigators in creating loud and enjoyable environment. Few things compare to thousands of fans singing a Fight Song in unison after a big touchdown. The experience isn't comparable to any other sport. The atmosphere is increased exponentially when rival schools come to town. Teams such as USC (University of Southern California), Notre Dame, and The Golden Bears all create a more enjoyable environment. With the addition of the University of Colorado and University of Utah, it expands the depth and creates even more rivalries.
Beautiful location, large venues, and crazed atmosphere are all reasons to attend the Stanford Football games this year. Not only are the aforementioned topics great, the history of the school and teams are excellent. In conclusion, come out to the football games this year, with plenty to do and traditions to partake in, you will not be disappointed!
