Ranchita Rocks is a three-day music festival, which debuted in 2007
as a fundraising concert for community and environmental groups
opposed to San Diego Gas & Electric's proposed Sunrise Powerlink
electrical transmission line. It returned in 2008 with national
headlining acts and an emphasis on solar, biodiesel and wind energy
to power the event.
Headliners include earthy jam-band favorites Yonder Mountain String
Band, DJ Bassnectar and hard-rocking Woodstock veterans Mountain, of
“Mississippi Queen” fame. Also set to perform are Weapon of Choice,
Interstate Blues, Vegitation, Tom Freund, Mojow & The Vibration
Army, Chi Club, Haywire, Blackbirdz, Grand Canyon Sundown, Stolen
Rose, Glenn Smith, Red Warrior Drum Group, Dope Girl, Cheap Thrills,
Julie McCollough and Cubensis.
The festival will be held near Ranchita, on the 160-acre Golightly
Farms horse ranch of Carolyn Morrow. She solicited nearly $60,000 in
donations of cash and services to stage last year's fete, including
$25,000 from the nearby Santa Ysabel Resort and Casino. Three-day
tickets – which include camping and parking – cost $100 each,
through July 31, and $135 thereafter, and are available online from
ranchitarocks.org. All proceeds will go to the Protect Our
Communities Fund.
Where to stay: Because of its remote location near Anza
Borrego State Park, you may have to drive a little ways to stay in
hotels. Tent camping & RV camping is available at the event, while
hotels in Julian, 35 minutes by car, and an hour away in
Escondido, the nearest big city with 13 hotels. Event management
received many complaints about the Warner Springs Hotel
accommodations and they don't recommend them.

The Cause: 100% of the profits are donated to Protect Our
Communities Fund. The Mission of the POC Fund is to stop the
Powerlink and at the same time help San Diego County achieve its
long-term goal of local power generation and distribution of
renewable and clean energy.
Fighting the proposed SDG&E 150 mile long, devastating transmission
line that would cut through Anza Borrego Desert State Park, you can
help at Ranchita Rocks, have fun and be heard.
Ranchita Rocks concert is the ONLY fundraiser planned for Protect
our Communities Fund (POC) to generate the necessary money to
continue the battle. POC has been instrumental in getting the Public
Utilities Commissioners to listen and understand the complexity and
enormity of this issue. POC's money has bought studies, expert
witnesses and legal counsel – all this does not come cheap.
But the fight is not yet over. We need to replenish our war chest.
The success of Ranchita Rocks is critical to our continued presence
in the face of massive opposition from SDG&E and Sempra. They have
unlimited funding – we don’t.
YOU CAN HELP CAUSE by getting the word out about Ranchita Rocks.
Spread the word, email your friends, and post bulletins on myspace.
If you have a website, put a link on your site to ours. Then let us
know you've done so by emailing allirocks@live.com, and we'll put
