The Redwood Empire Fair is a yearly event in Ukiah, California, deep in the heart of Mendocino county, or Mendonesia, as the locals like to call it. This is beautiful country where redwood trees abound, and that's enough of a reason to go right there, but if you go to the Redwood Empire Fair in Ukiah they'll show you a classic town fair carnival and a good time.
They've got rides. The ferris wheel is a classic, and from the top they say looking down on the Redwood Empire Fair is like looking down on a town fair in the old west. Since the Fair is thrown by the 12th District Agricultural Association there's plenty of animals and livestock, too. The kids love the pony rides. They've got clowns if you need a laugh. In fact, since the Redwood Empire Fair is thrown yearly in Ukiah on the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds, a permanent facility, they've got a whole host of activities that you might not find in fairs that pitch and pack up in a matter of days.
They've got a motocross track and a raceway, too. The diesel sled pulling event is a big attraction. The fine arts are also represented at the Redwood County Fair, and there's always a fine set of crafts to peruse so you can take a piece of the fair home to remember it by. The beer stand is always popular, of course, and if you feel like staying a couple of days, no problem. There's usually room in town.
Every year the Redwood Empire Fair brings a goodly bit of money into Ukiah and for good reason - it's fun! The fair is a chance for Ukiah to welcome the surrounding cities, towns, and mountain communities and celebrate the good life they're living in the heart of Mendocino County.
