Ballet America and
The Redwood City
Nutcracker performances at the historic Fox Theatre are a hit each
year and with good
reason. From
beautiful stage
sets, costumes and
lighting, to some of
the finest dancers,
the performance
annually features
several guest

In 2008 they included David Bier, who began
at Menlo Park
Academy of Ballet
before continuing at
the Pacific Dance
Center in Palo Alto
under Richard
Gibson. Bier
continued his
training at San
Francisco Ballet
School, Houston
Ballet Academy and
the School of
American Ballet in
New York. Performing
around the globe, he
joined the San
Francisco Opera, and
became a tenured
member of the Corps
de Ballet 1996.
Another featured
guest dancer, Julia
Ball-Dugan, studied
at Sacramento Ballet
under the
directorship of
Barbara Crockett.
Boston Ballet,
Pacific Northwest
Ballet, and San
Francisco Ballet
study and
scholarships
resulted in a
position at American
Festival Ballet,
dance with Eugene
Ballet and Tulsa
Ballet Theatre.
Graduating with a BA
in Economics and an
MA in Dance
Education from
Stanford University,
she founded
Stanford’s first
ballet company. She
also opened Academy
of American Ballet
as the official
school of Ballet
America in Redwood
City, and has
directed The
Nutcracker for 10
years.
Joining these
talents, Christopher
Lee, is a founding
member of San
Francisco-based
LEVYdance. He
graduated with a BA
in Art Practice and
Dance from UC
Berkeley. Esther
Cardona rounds out
the guest list as a
freelance dancer in
the Bay Area, and a
frequent guest
artist for the San
Francisco Youth
Ballet Theatre.
Joining these guest talents are the
dedicated, talented
and incredibly
hard-working
students of
the
Academy of American
Ballet. A
diverse cast of more than 100 student and
professional dancers
pull out all stops
to present one of
the finest
productions in the
Bay Area.
