Event HIstory
The first triathlon in history, the Mission Bay Triathlon, was held in 1974 as a run-bike-swim-run event on Fiesta Island by the San Diego Track Club. The Race consisted of over 5 miles of running, 5 miles of cycling and 600 yards of swimming. In 2012, 1,800 competitors from around the country will return to Mission Bay and celebrate triathlon. Join us at the birthplace of the sport!
2012 RACE Features
The 2012 race features 5 split chip timing and a
post-race party with refreshments, beer garden, live
entertainment and an awards ceremony. ALL PARTICPANTS WILL RECEIVE A TECHNICAL T-SHIRT AND VIRTUAL GOODIE BAG. All participants will receive a finisher medal. Awards to the top three finishers in each category. (top five for large divisions) Points for the KOZ Multisport Points Series (triathlon only) to the top 10 individual finishers in division categories.

500 Meter Swim, 15K Bike, 5K Run
The Swim
A 500 meter point-to-point swim in a protected and calm are of Mission Bay. There will be multiple wave starts that will be set 5-10 minutes apart. The wave start times that will be posted are APPROXIMATE times. Wave starts may be early or delayed. Please make sure to be at the swim start at least 20 minutes prior to your approximate wave start time.Times will be posted at pre-race check-in. Water temperature averages about 67 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended.
The Bike
A flat and fast 15K bike ride around the perimeter of Misson Bay, circling Fiesta Island and returning to Ski Beach.
The Run
A flat and fast loop 5K along the walkway near the Paradise Point Resort and the model boat pond, finishing at the transition area at Ski Beach
Pre-Race Check In Information
ALL Participants must attend the mandatory pre-race expo to pick up their own race materials. We do not allow friends or family members to pick up your race materials for you. ID's are mandatory at the expo. Please arrive prepared.
You will not be able to rack your bike, unless you have your bib #. PICK UP YOUR BIB NUMBER FIRST Those who do not check-in on Saturday and do not chose the Mail Back or VIP check-in option, must pay a late check-in fee of $10.00 on race morning.
Pre-Race Check In
All Race participants must check-in on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Ski Beach in Mission Bay 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Participants must sign waiver and pick up race materials and additional information
Wetsuit Rental
You can rent a wetsuit from De Soto Sport online and pick it up at the Pre-Race Check-In.

Mail-Back Option
For a fee of $15- Receive your race materials in
the mail, EXCEPT FOR YOUR TIMING CHIP
AND T-SHIRT, at least 5 days prior to the race.
You do not need to attend the pre-race check in.
Your timing chip will be available for you at the VIP
booth on race morning. You will need to return a
signed waiver by mail and pick up your t-shirt at
the finish.
VIP Check-In:
From out of town and/or can't make it to race check-in? For a fee of $30, your race numbers, waiver, swim cap and shirt will be ready for you on race day at a specially marked bike rack in the transition area.
Refund and Transer Policy
Partial refunds and transfers are available. Cancel by June 1st and receive a refund, minus a $10 cancellation fee. After June 2nd receive a refund, minus a $25 cancellation fee. Once the race sells out, refunds will not be offered. You may transfer your entry to the 2013 event or to another person up until June September 10th.
Transfer Information
To transfer your entry to the 2013 event or to another person, you must download a San Diego Triathlon Series Transfer Form at www.kozevents.com. Transfer from must be received or postmarked by the September 10th deadline. There is a $20 transfer fee for all transfers.
