2010 Crab
& Wine Days offers succulent Dungeness crab, the first
choice of many crab lovers. Ranked as one of America’s Top
10 Seafood & Wine Festivals by Coastal Living Magazine, crab
feeds, winemakers dinners, cooking classes, wine
competitions and numerous food and wine events fill the
calendar of this annual crowd pleaser.
From
crabbing demonstrations to crab cruises, cooking classes to
cioppino feeds, visitors to this northern California coastal
region are pleasantly surprised by the gourmet
restaurants, unique inns, picturesque villages, friendly
wineries, wild and scenic rivers, majestic redwoods and
rugged seaside in America’s Greenest Wine Region, Mendocino
County.
Newspaper “tablecloths” and bibs greet guests in a tradition
that allows you to dig in and enjoy your crab with a mug of
Mendocino County ale. Among the many attractions and
activities surrounding this event here are some highlights:
Mendocino County’s rugged coastline has been home to
generations of fishermen who harvest the bounties of our
cold, clear Pacific Ocean, including delicious Dungeness
crab. And, every January, Mendocino County celebrates this
delightful crustacean and locally grown and produced wines
with a Festival that delights foodies and oenophiles alike!

Meet the Crab Cake Cook-Off Judges:
Katie Arnold-Ratliff – O, the Oprah Magazine
Katie is a member of the editorial staff at O, the Oprah
Magazine, where her writing onfood, drink, and travel
appears regularly. She is also a fiction writer, whose first
novel, Bright Before Us As a Flame, will be published in
Fall 2010. A northern California native, she lives in New
York.
Grisel Diaz Ors – Skylights magazine, Inflight publication
for Spirit Airlines
Grisel Diaz Ors is the Executive Food and Wine Editor and
Restaurant Reviewer for Worth International Media Group,
publishers of Skylights and Prevue magazines and other
travel publications. A graduate of Johnson & Wales
University, she is a trained chef and food writer. As
Culinary Editor, Grisel travels the world seeking out
delicious regional foods and wines, trends and products.
Born in Cuba, she has lived in Mexico and currently resides
in Miami and the Berkshire Mountains.
Mary Orlin – In Wine Country
Mary Orlin is the Emmy award-winning Executive Producer of
NBC’s In Wine Country, wine country’s premier lifestyle show
that airs nationally on the NBC Network. She launched the
show in October 2001; it is now in its ninth season. In 2005
she received the James Beard Foundation Award, as well as
Emmys in 2007 and 2008, and has garnered numerous other
journalism awards for the show. She has also been a wine
judge at the California State Fair, Livermore Valley’s Taste
of Terroir and the Santa Cruz Mountains wine competitions.
Prior to working at NBC, Mary Orlin was a producer for CNN
Travel Now, CNN’s program on worldwide destinations, trends,
wine and cuisines. She also served as an editor and reporter
for Zagat Survey and Travelocity Magazine, and was food and
wine editor for the Palo Alto Weekly.
Paige Porter Fischer – Better Homes & Gardens
Paige Porter Fischer is the West Coast Editor of Better
Homes & Gardens magazine. Based in San Francisco, she
produces food, garden, and home design stories for the
magazine, which boasts more than 30 million readers. Paige
has been with Better Homes & Gardens for five years.
Previously, she was features writer for Coastal Living
magazine. When she’s not writing, shooting, or editing
stories, Paige enjoys eating her way around the Bay Area
with her husband, Greg, and daughter, Cate.
Julia Rutland – Coastal Living magazine
As Food and Entertaining Senior Editor for Coastal Living
magazine, Julia produces a wide variety of food columns in
each issue: Entertaining, Happy Hour, Local Flavor, and
Fresh Catch. You’ll find Julia happily multitasking, whether
it’s writing, developing and testing recipes, food styling,
or checking out the latest seafood restaurant. Often flying
from coast to coast to coordinate location photography,
Julia has yet to select her favorite beach. Julia is a
Certified Culinary Professional with the International
Association of Culinary Professionals and member of the
National Beekeepers Association, Alabama Beekeepers
Association, Slow Food USA, Southern Foodways Alliance, and
American Institute of Wine and Food.
Olivia Wu – Executive Chef, Google
Olivia Wu is an Executive Chef at Google,Inc. in Mountain
View. She has been a cooking teacher, cookbook author,
caterer, personal chef and journalist, writing for several
Chicago dailies and the San
Francisco Chronicle. At Google, she is part of a culinary
team that oversees 18 cafes in Northern California, in a
program dedicated to local, seasonalfoods and committed to
sustainability.
