Ballet's The Nutcracker annual performance at the Terrace
Theater is over 25 years strong and is internationally known and
recognized. Guest dancers have included Gold Medalist Haiyan Wu. In 2009
Ballerina Melissa Sandvig (“So You Think You Can Dance”
Finalist), a product of the Long
Beach
Ballet, is featured as the
Dewdrop Fairy in all performances. David Wilcox, a name recognized in the dance world, is
the producer of this colorful stage event that's appeared around
the globe.
Southern California's Most Popular Nutcracker Production has
sold over half a million tickets to date. Choreographed by
acclaimed Artistic Director David Wilcox, this production
includes a full symphony orchestra under the baton of Roger
Hickman, and is the only Nutcracker production in Southern
California with full symphony orchestra. Delight in the
trademark flying sleigh, live horse, and exciting pyrotechnics,
all set to Tchaikovsky’s traditional music score.

David Wilcox, Artistic Director, studied at the Royal Academy of
Dance in England and began his professional career with the
Berlin Ballet, the Nuremberg
Ballet and the Heidelberg
Ballet. Returning his
Long
Beach home, he co-founded
Long
Beach
Ballet and formed a
professional company which became Southern California's most
successful ballet company for
15 years.
Several of his students
have gone on to join such companies as San Francisco
Ballet, Hamburg
Ballet, National
Ballet of Canada, Milwaukee
Ballet and New York
Ballet Theater. Over the past
several years he has produced and directed five
ballet tours to Asia and has
staged three full-length ballets for the Classical
Ballet of Guangzhou, China:
Cinderella, La Bayadere and The Nutcracker. This prolific
choreographer has created numerous full-length ballets that have
enjoyed standing ovations around the globe.
