Until Memorial Day, May 25,
Legoland park guests can witness the 56th quadrennial Presidential
Inauguration on the steps of the Capitol in Miniland U.S.A., thanks
to the work of master model designers who have spent weeks
recreating the historic scene depicting Barack Obama taking the
Presidential oath of office. Obama, his family, Vice President-elect
Joseph Biden and his wife Jill, President George Bush and First Lady
Laura Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and wife Lynn, along with
former President George Bush Sr. and Barbara Bush have all been
created out of hundreds of LEGO bricks. More than one-thousand
mini-figures in all were created in an effort to depict what the
real inauguration in Washington D.C. might look like.
Other ceremony participants in
this unique display includee: Aretha Franklin, Oprah Winfrey, John
Williams, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo-Ma, Gabriela Montero, Anthony
McGill, the Unites States Marine Band, the San Francisco Boys
Chorus, Senator Dianne Feinstein and Dr. Rick Warren. Master Model
Designer Gary McIntire said it was challenging to create people and
have them recognizable in such a small format. For Barack Obama, his
red tie and height made him stand out; Michelle Obama's style of her
dress gave her away. Picking out known people such as celebrities
and major politicians was the goal of the creative studio at
Legoland where 20 Model Builders pitched in to create the
scene. Details such as porta-potties were included to make the view
as realistic as possible.
Miniland U.S.A. is comprised of
more than 22 million LEGO bricks in scenes that depict
Washington, D.C., New York, Las Vegas, New Orleans, San Francisco,
Daytona, New England and the Southern California coastline.
