The annual Surfing Walk of Fame is held in downtown Huntington Beach
each July to coincide with the US Open of Surfing WQS (World Qualifying
Series) 6 star event.
Honorees are selected during a
process in which ballots are sent around the world. Those chosen are
invited to the Huntington Beach event to be recognized for their
contributions to the world of surfing.
On the paved sidewalks across the
street from the world famous Huntington Beach Pier, engraved granite
plaques commemorate international surfing greats. Recipients have
included many of the names of surfing. The public is invited to the free
ceremony in which honorees are given trophies and their sidewalk plaques
are unveiled to the world. Throughout the year, millions of tourists
walk past the plaques and photograph their families and friends in front
of the the stones.
The public is also invited to see the Walk Of Fame's Exhibit in the
Huntington Beach Surfing Museum at 411 Olive Avenue At 5th Street in
downtown Huntington Beach. It's open daily. For more information
contact: (714) 960-3483. The Website Is: http://www.surfingmuseum.org.
