There are few professional sports events that are more different when you see them in person than a professional golf tournament, and the Frys.com Open PGA Golf Tournament is no exception. Watching the event on television, you get no sense of continuity since the tournament is broadcast in no particular order as the broadcasters jump from hole to hole trying to stay ahead of the action. When you actually at the tournament, though, the experience is completely different.
First, you get to actually enjoy the beautiful environment of the golf course, with its overgrown areas of rough, cavernous sand traps and neatly manicured greens. On television, all you get to hear is the whispers of the announcers, while spectators at the Frys.com tournament get to chat with each other and occasionally banter with the players. The biggest difference that comes with actually being at the tournament, though is that spectators can actually choose how they want to view and experience it. They can follow a single pairing of golfers as they play the entire course or they can relax at a specific hole and get to see every golfer pass through.
The Frys.com Open PGA Golf Tournament is played at the CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin, CA and has previously been played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ. CordeValle is a spectacular championship golf course that lies at the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is convenient to both San Jose and San Francisco. The course was designed by renowned course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and covers 270 acres of rolling terrain. Hotels near CordeValle include the Residence Inn Marriott, the Holiday Inn of Silicon Valley, the Gilroy Fitzgerald House Bed and Breakfast, the Dolce Hayes Mansion and the Fairmont Hotel. A huge assortment of restaurants are also located within thirty miles of the CordeValle and adventurous visitors can even make the trek up to the wine country, which lies less than an hour away.
The Frys.com Open tournament always begins on a Thursday and spans four days. It is usually preceded by a Pro-Am tournament where spectators can watch a succession of notable athletes and entertainers play alongside their golf heroes in an event that is always light and humorous. If you can get tickets to this incredible event you'll truly enjoy being there in person.
