- Made in Culver City, a free film program
presented by the Culver City Redevelopment
Agency, will feature the beloved MGM musical
classic The Wizard of Oz on September 12, 2009
at 7:30pm in Culver City’s City Hall Courtyard.
Culver City City Hall is located at 9770 Culver
Boulevard and parking and dining are available
in Downtown Culver City. No reservations are
required for this family event.
The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland,
received the Best Music, Original Song Academy
Award for the timeless “Over The Rainbow”. The
story follows Dorothy Gale and her dog Toto as
they travel from their home in Kansas to the
magical land of Oz. The Wizard of Oz was filmed
entirely in Culver City at MGM Studios and this
year marks the 70th Anniversary of its release
in 1939. Special permission for the screening
has been provided by Warner Home Video in
anticipation and celebration of the September
29th release of their spectacular newly restored
Blu-ray version of this classic treasure.
Made in Culver City celebrates the golden
classics that were produced in “The Heart of
Screenland”. The City of Culver City has a
unique film legacy and has been the home to
Thomas H. Ince Studios, Hal Roach Studios,
DeMille Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Selznick
International Studios, RKO Pictures, Pathe,
Desilu and, currently, The Culver Studios and
Sony Pictures Studios. This year Made in Culver
City is presented in association with Warner
Bros. and sponsored by Sony Pictures
Entertainment with participation by the Culver
City Historical Society.
