Travel to the alkali sink, desert scrub, grasslands, and juniper woodland habitats within the thousands of acres of the Carrizo Plain National Monument in eastern San Luis Obispo County. Observe the native flora and fauna, search for tule elk and pronghorn antelope, take in the view from Overlook Hill above Soda Lake and enjoy the sunset watch while following the trace of the San Andreas Fault along the foothills of the Temblor Range.  Drive remote roads at night searching for nocturnally active wildlife, including barn owls, burrowing owls, reptiles, endangered giant kangaroo rats and San Joaquin kit foxes, jackrabbits, cottontails, and possible badger and coyote sightings.  Van transportation provided.

Learn about the seismic and geologic history of California and earthquake studies along the San Andreas Fault Zone. Observe the trace of the fault at stops through the Cholame Valley, the town of Parkfield, and along Bitterwater Valley to the Carrizo Plain.
