Cultural voyeurs and county fair aficionados alike feel an almost magnetic draw to the California desert every February, to revel in the fun and fancy of the annual Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival in Indio. Since 1947, the sometimes offbeat and certainly exotic ten-day extravaganza sparks delight in the more than 300,000 fair-goers celebrating Coachella Valley's date palm harvest in an Arabian Nights fantasy theme.
