California Gun Shows List

California Gun Shows seem to be on schedule in recent years. Economic factors have caused cutbacks in production of annual conventions, parades and special events, and the shortage of ammunition has impacted gun sales. But during recessionary times, gun sales have only increased in what some describe as the perfect storm in the firearm industry. Dates of the gun shows change every year so be sure to call ahead and visit their websites before marking your calendar. Below is a list of California gun show events.

While it's a known fact that 2009 was seen as the year of the ammunition shortage in the U.S., this past week in Virginia, a conservative state with somewhat liberal gun laws,  vendors reported a 200% increase in sales at a gun show, with women entering the market more than ever.

The FBI reported a 30% increase in gun sales in the first three months of 2009, and almost 1 million more guns will be purchased in 2009 over 2008, with purchases this year around 13.5 million in the U.S.  How many people are killed by firearms in the U.S. each year? Around 30,000.  No statistics are provided as to how many people are protected by firearms annually.

The shortage of ammo was truly the big news as hunters faced almost doubling prices in what is considered price gouging. Ammo experts predict the shortage to end soon.

What is driving ammunition demand and shortages?

Recent legislation and positions on gun issues created a fear of loss of 2nd amendment rights this year.

Stockpiling of ammo from those fearing a ban on ammunition sells would occur

Economy in which ammunition manufacturers have not increased production

Demand from China for lead used in ammunition production

Increased military and police demands during the "War on Terror".  Government Accounting Office has stated that commercial producers of ammo have not been able to keep pace with military demand.

The Department of Defense purchases ammunition from other countries, with The Pentagon reportedly buying 313 million rounds of 5.56mm, 7.62mm and 50-calibre ammunition last year  (mostly Israeli made) and paying $10 million more than it would have cost for it to produce the ammunition at its own facilities or purchased from USA bulletsmiths, according to the GAO and other sources.

Trends in gun purchases:

More women buying stylish weapons

More demand for designer products such as leopard skin, bright colors

More purchase of ultra-light handguns made of titanium

Pink grips are in for the female audience

More demand for Tasers
