Calico Ghost Town Hosts Civil War Battle Re-enactments Over Presidents’ Day

Ghost Town in the California desert transforms into a Civil War experience over
Presidents’ Day weekend. Civil War re-enactors from across the Southwest Region
bring the Civil War to life allowing Calico guests to engage with company
commanders, witness daily battles complete with cannons, calvary and passionate
war cries.
Calico transforms into encampments for Union and Confederate troops, complete
with two battles each day at the Silver Bowl and Artillery Hill. Generals
narrate each of the battles for the audience to understand what is going on.
Three hundred re-enactors from the Southwest region of the American Civil War
Society recreate the authentic look of the time – from the clothes they wore,
how they fought and the layout of the encampments, portraying not simply the
bloodshed, but also life's routines during an important era in American history.
Dressed in the signature suit and stovepipe hat, Don Ancell of Oxnard, CA will
portray Abraham Lincoln, and deliver the Gettysburg address as the 16th
President. Interaction with "Lincoln" and re-enactors, a Civil War period
fashion show, music from the era, a ladies’ tea open to the pubic, and souvenir
gifts, vendor foods, music, and entertainment make this one of the best
educationally-fun opportunities to honor America's notable presidents.
Calico Ghost Town is a historic old mining town, and what better way to bring
another side of history to its hills! It is a great way for families to spend
quality time in a living history environment celebrating the Presidents’ Day
holiday weekend. Admission to this event is $10 adults; $5 ages 6-15 and FREE
for children 5 and under. Active military with proof of identification will be
admitted for $5 adult; $3 ages 6-15. Admission on Monday, February 15th will be
$10 per carload.
