Berkeley's
39th Annual Live Oak Park Fair. From Saturday, June 13 to Sunday, June
14,
2009, this much anticipated free event showcases affordable and gorgeous
fine
crafts and contemporary art, including the latest handcrafted jewelry,
clothing and
accessories, quilts and baskets as well as sculptural and functional
objects in
clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood.
The whole family will enjoy a delicious array of festive food and drink
along with
continuous entertainment. Musical ambience abounds with Tippy Canoe’s
unique
ukulele-based sound, Mikie Lee Prasard’s country rhythms and Wildsang’s
blues-infused folk duets. Live Oak Park is one of Berkeley's oldest and
most
naturalistic public parks—with accessible paths winding throughout the
groves of
magnificent oaks, towering Redwoods and meandering Codornices Creek—it
provides the perfect setting for one of the Bay Area’s favorite summer
events.
Live Oak Park Fair offers a unique opportunity to support local artisans
and
craftspeople while finding excellent values on some of the finest
hand-made
treasures. Casual browsers and craft aficionados can meet the artists
and learn
about their work in creating these one-of-a kind items.
More than 100 of the country’s top craftspeople and artisans including:
• Hand-cut Block Printer - Yoshiko Yamamoto of Port Townsend, Washington
whose vibrant cards and limited edition hand-cut block prints are
coveted by
collectors. A returning fair favorite, her Linoleum block print
“Blackberries” has
been selected to represent the Live Oak Park Fair as the signature
image,
appearing on all posters and cards.
• Clay Artist - Barbara Glynn Prodaniuk of the Tahoe Basin area, who
captures
the natural beauty of her nearby surroundings in sculptural pieces using
a variety
of Raku, sawdust, pit-fired and high-fired pottery techniques.
• Painter- Julianne Sterling of the East Bay, who creates soft, luminous
abstracts
and evocative figure paintings using oil on both wood and canvas.
• Jewelry Designer - Katie Enewold of the Monterrey Peninsula who
designs
whimsical earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pins using sterling silver,
copper
and brass combined with glass beads, semi-precious stones and found
object
accents.
