BERKELEY - Pocket Opera with Offenbach's ' La Belle Helene. Pocket Opera presents professional performances of operatic works in intimate, intelligible productions with English translations. Productions are staged with minimal costuming & without sets, using only a few practical props. Performances are accompanied by the Pocket Philharmonic, a chamber orchestra led by Donald Pippin. COSTA MESA - Free Train Rides. Orange County Model Engineers club operates 1/8th scale trains in Fairview Park that the public are invited to watch and ride. The 12 minute journey includes a trip around the park, picnic tables for parties and a gift shop with train and logo related items for children and adults. Time: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

EL CENTRO - Mardi Gras Light Parade and Street Fair. Glittery costumes, lights, beads, jazz music, New Orleans and regional style cuisine make for a fine time in downtown El Centro. Street Fair Parade begins at 12th and Main. Time: 5 - 6 p.m. cityofelcentro.org

INDIO -  National Date Festival and Riverside County Fair.  The 62nd annual National Date Festival & Riverside County Fair runs through Feb 22. Camel & Ostrich Races, Fiesta del Charro, concerts, food, and the Scheherazade Beauty Queen are part of this incredible celebration.

LONG BEACH - Car Show. 1st Annual Millikan High School Car Show invites the public to attend or enter a vehicle in the show.
