The City of Huntington
Beach Emergency Operations Center (EOC) held a Grand
Re-Opening Open
House on August 31 to showcase its new technology. Located
in City Hall in the Lower Lobby, the EOC features a
new video wall for incident tracking, SmartBoard, and
software that provides real-time incident tracking and
improved internal and external communications. Designed to
serve as a headquarters during a major disaster or incident,
the technology also allows for a live video feed from the
city's Police helicopter and the field operations.
The Open House
offered a glimpse into the City's efforts to respond most
effectively to emergency situations such as disasters. Paid
for through grants and agency funding, EOC is but one of the
City of Huntington Beach's efforts to keep the Orange
County, California beach community safe.
The City has a
comprehensive Emergency Management Program which includes an
Emergency Management Plan, Emergency Operations Center,
Emergency Management Team, Public Safety Officers, Employee
Safety Officer Program, Public Education Program and trained
volunteers. Community preparedness training for volunteers includes CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and RACES
(Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services) programs.
The Open House
dedication included an introduction by Mayor Dave Sullivan
and speeches by Glorria Morrison, Emergency Services
Coordinator, and Duane Olson, Huntington Beach Fire Chief.
