El Pescador means "the fisherman" in Spanish, and fishing is just one of the many reasons El Pescador State Beach in Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach Park near Malibu California is a premier spot for summer vacationing. The beach has $2.00 paved parking, and limited free parking. The parking lot can be full on the weekends, but there's usually still plenty of space during the week. It's a great stop if you're vacationing in Malibu, because there's something for everyone, the waves are good for surfing and bodyboarding, making it kind of a local surf spot, and the tide pools and kelp beds make it excellent for diving and exploring the sea life.
It's open at 8am and doesn't close until the sun goes down, so in the summer you can count on hours of roughly 8am to 8pm, perfect if you want to stop by in the late afternoon after lunch or even before breakfast. El Pescador beach is also a part of a system of smaller pocket-beaches set apart by a series of cliffs, the three beaches in the string are El Pescador, El Matador, and La Piedra, so if one of the beaches is too crowded you can try to see if there's space in the other three, these beaches are right off of the Pacific Highway, with good signage leading to them, so these beautiful pocket beaches will also make a good quick stop on the way north if you're looking to go to San Francisco from the Los Angeles area.
