Rosemary
Farms is located near Suey and Jones Roads in Santa Maria. The kind woman
in the office will answer all your questions about eggs. If you live in
the city, you don't have many opportunities to taste fresh produce.
Central Coast California is not Los Angeles and that's good because it
is here that you can purchase eggs straight from the chicken.
Before eggs are packaged, a special light is shone through
them to determine if they consist of double yolks and to also make sure
none of the shells are broken before selling. Eggs with broken shells are
thrown into a bucket and the collection is sold and then packaged in animal
food products.
Steve Zaritsky has owned Rosemary Farms since 1997. An
egg man like his father and his grandfather, Zaritsky characterizes it
as one of the smallest commercial egg operations in California but one
of the largest producers of organic and cage-free eggs in the western United
States.
