Disneyland
Flowers and Flower Gardens offer are an attraction as well!
One of
California's horticulture delights is in a theme park. Disneyland in Anaheim,
California offers an incredibly pleasing display of colorful flowers that grow
well in the Southern California climate. Though Anaheim rarely sees freezing
temperatures, you can be sure that the gardeners who tend to hundreds of
thousands of colorful blossoms at Disneyland go into alert when the temperature
dips, threatening the park's gardens that help make everything so magical.
Walt Disney, the
park's creator and founder, first got his ideas for formal gardens from his
observations and study of European gardens he visited and studied during the
1940's and 50's. Inspired by the likes of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, he hired
Morgan "Bill" Evans to bring focus, form and perspective to the attractions
through the use of plants, shrubs and flowers.
Expanding on the
use of flowers in the newer theme park, Epcot, that park enjoys and annual
International Flower and Garden Festival in June.
