Dana Adobe at 671 Oakglen Street is the historical home of Captain Dana. He
became a Mexican citizen in 1835 and eventually received a land grant (a rancho)
of more than 37,000 acres at Nipomo, in what would later become San Luis Obispo
County. The Dana rancho extended from the Santa Maria River north to the present
Los Berros Road, and from the Santa Lucia foothills to the shores of the
Pacific. The historic landmark is operated by Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos
(DANA.)
An active and dedicated volunteer groups seeks to
refurbish the building and grounds so that tourists, students and the
local Central Coast community can share in the history of California and
the Central Coast. Call: (805) 929-5679.
