Ventura County is located on the Pacific Coast of Southern California and has a population of around 800,000 inhabitants. It is the sixth-wealthiest county in the state. The county seat is the city of Ventura and its largest city is Oxnard. It is subdivided into 2 parts -- East County and West County by the Conejo Grade. East County has the end of the Santa Monica mountains with beautiful hiking trails. West County borders the Channel Islands Harbor and has many beautiful beaches. The region around Ojai is known for its vineyards and annually in June they host a wine festival. Drive through the area and spend the day wine tasting at the local wineries (designated driver recommended!)

Different areas of Ventura County have been used for filming movies, including Swordfish, Erin Brockovich, and Little Miss Sunshine due to its natural beauty. The Channel Island National Park is easily accessible by ferry and, being relatively underdeveloped, is home to many species of plant and animal life. Two of the eight Channel Islands are part of Ventura County, Anacapa Island and San Nicolas Island. The other five major public lands of Ventura are Los Padres National Forest, Hopper Mountain Wildlife National Refuge, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Dick Smith Wilderness and even a small portion of the Angeles National Forest.
