Sonoma County is located on the northern coast of California, about 30 miles north of San Francisco. The largest city in the county is Santa Rosa, home to the Laguna de Santa Rosa, one of the county's richest wildlife regions. Outside the city there are many great towns worth spending the day in. Go shopping and browsing in Healdsburg, Windsor, Sobastopol, and Petaluma. Drive the many scenic roads around the county and head out to Bodega Bay for the day to relax and watch the kite-surfers. Sonoma County is probably most famous for the more than 200 wineries that dot the landscape many of which offer wine tasting to visitors. There are plenty of other attractions in the area, however. Beaches and bays, farms and gardens, and a redwood reserve offer entertainment for nature-seekers. Sonoma County possesses many state parks worth visiting and exploring on foot. Some of those parks include Annadel State Park, Jack London State Park, Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve, Armstrong Redwoods SP, and Bothe-Napa State Park. For those looking for something different, The Sonoma TrainTown Railroad is a miniature train amusement park that will entertain adults and the kids.
