Between the coast and the plains are the Sierra Madre Mountains in the northern portion of the Los Padres National Forest. San Luis Obispo county is also known for Hearst Castle at Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument. Wine tasting and watersports are popular events in this mostly rural county that produces the third most wine of any county in California. If you are looking for a happening nightlife and big city atmosphere on your next getaway, this is not the destination for you.
