County Line Beach - Ventura
and Los Angeles County Beaches
County Line Beach that
connect the counties of Ventura and Los Angeles is a beautiful coastal beach
separated by the Santa Monica Mountains from the inland urban cities.
Accessible on Highway 1 from Oxnard or Malibu or through several windy,
mountain routes, County Line Beach is popular for beachcombing, surfing,
swimming, sunbathing and painting. Considered a Los Angeles County beach, it
straddles both regions with a great selection of vacation getaway hotels in
Oxnard.
An artists sits atop a
hill overlooking the beach with his portable chair, easel and container of
brushes, canvas and paints. The scene below is serene. The Pacific Ocean, a
blue, sparkling mass, is punctuated by rows of waves that brake slightly
offshore. Several rock formations jut into the water, allowing beach lovers
to stand beyond the ocean's edge and watch the waves arrive and retreat.
A sprinkling of brilliant red or orange flowers dots the hillside landscape
above the beach.
Ventura County Line is a
favorite beach for surfers and divers, too. Its beach break with peaks
is ideal for surfing. When the waves are small and the water visibility is
clear, diving conditions range from good to excellent. There's an abundance
of sea life at the outer reefs but follow the rules that will keep you safe.
There are no lifeguards on the beach so always go out when someone's around
and go in pairs.
Portable restrooms are
available by the dirt parking lot above the point at Leo Carrillo State Park
- County Line Beach.
