Coronado California Beach Volleyball - Sand Volleyball California

Coronado City Beach or Central Beach behind the Hotel del Coronado on Coronado Island is one of the best places for beach volleyball in San Diego. This is the same beach that Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis frequented while filming 'Some Like It Hot". The wide, clean beach between the Hotel Del and Naval Air Station North Island includes sand volleyball courts, perfect for beginners or advanced competition.

In its annual Top 10 survey, The Travel Channel announced that Coronado is one of America's finest beaches. Wide, clean, family-friendly beach, within Coronado include North Beach from Sunset Park to the North Island Naval Base. The coastline faces due south, and in the summer hurricane season, when steep-angle south swells miss the rest of San Diego, 'Outlet' is popular for surfing. The large beach area south of the Hotel Del to Silver Strand is called The Shores.

Beach areas have fire rings, restrooms, showers, and lifeguards. Also, there is an off-leash dog area to the north. Limited free parking on Ocean Boulevard and at parking lots on Avenida Lunar and Avenida de las Arenas is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Glorietta Bay Beach, south of the Hotel Del Coronado, is a nice alternative for families, offering the choice of both beach and playground in a park-like setting, with views of San Diego and the Coronado Bridge.

A bike path allows for recreational rides (rentals available at Coronado Ferry Landing). A wide concrete pathway runs east-west, affording dramatic views of downtown San Diego. Coronado Island's lovely downtown is a picture-postcard setting. A lush greenbelt runs separates the the lanes of traffic, allowing for a pleasurable scene while you sometimes may sit and wait at a stoplight. Restaurants and shops stretch the length of the downtown to Hotel del Coronado. Along the way are public buses that run between the Island and downtown San Diego with stops at major hotels and Ferry Landing.

Back at the Coronado beaches, there are areas that allow dogs, some bonfire pits, lifeguards on duty and if you stay at hotels such as the "Del", you'll find tennis courts for rent overlooking the beach, Pacific Ocean and Point Loma where the tiny, but visible lighthouse can be seen in the distance.
