This flag was
designed for the 1st Regiment of the US
Sharpshooters. The flag was created by a
craftsman in Illinois who diligently researched
the history of the regiment before crafting the
flag. Made of pure silk, the flag lettering was
printed in an ink process with the colors forced
through the back side.
The flag itself
could actually be used as a weapon in battle
with the spear on top of the pole carrying the
lightweight item.
This is one of
the many props used in Civil War reenactments
held throughout the United States. In
California, there are groups throughout the
state that meet regularly and enjoy events held
throughout the year with mock Civil War battles.
Though not commonly known, Californians provided
troops during the Civil War. Californians
guarded southwestern regions as well as sending
regiments to the Eastern US.
