Huntington City Beach is one of three beaches in the
Southern California seaside city located in Orange
County. The hub of action for sporting events, the
center of attention with its anchor Huntington Beach
Pier and Pier Plaza entertainment concert plaza, the
home to the weekly Farmer's Market and two favorite
beach restaurants with ocean views, Dukes and
Chimayo, there are so many things that encapsulate
this beloved beach.
Summers bring a host of activities to Huntington
City Beach where a
cluster
of volleyball nets stand at attention ready
for play, any time of day. Home to three beach
volleyball tournaments, these nets take a lot of
wear, and they love it!
Another popular activity is building a bonfire at
one of the City Beach fire rings. The free firepits
made of stone encasements must be used to build your
fire. Fire wood is sold at the beach concessions and
the fire rings are available on a first come, first
serve basis. Tip: If you come on a chilly night or
even a busy night in summer, you often can take over
a fire as others abandon it early to go home. It's
not something to count on, but if you luck into one,
wow! There are
beaches with bonfires throughout California
for tourists to enjoy.
The usually serene city beach jolts into action each
summer in late July and early August with the US
Open of Surfing and Beach Games. Never will you see
so much sand fly as when the people flock to Surfers
Village for free games, giveaways and concerts, all
to the back drop of arenas and grandstands where you
can simultaneously watch surfing, skateboarding and
other sports competitions.
City Beach offers paid parking lots, meter parking
on Pacific Coast Highway, and stretches several
miles from Seapoint Street to Beach Boulevard. The
northernmost portion of City Beach is home to
Huntington Beach Dog Beach. You can park in lots
located between Seapoint and Golden West Streets on
PCH.
Beach concessions at Huntington City Beach offer
everything from skate, bike, bodyboard and surf
rentals to foods and fun. You can actually cater a
party through the concession beach catering service.

Lifeguard protected, City Beach enjoys great surfing
action. It is the best place to watch surfers
because you can stand out on the Huntington Beach
Pier and gaze directly down on the surfers many
days. Bring a camera to take a souvenir picture of
your family at the pier. Catch a sunset there, as
well. Then go grab a tasty malt at the Ruby's Diner
on the pier. You can also rent a rod and reel, buy
some bait and fish off the pier.
Huntington City Beach is one of three beaches. It is
operated by the City of Huntington Beach, while
Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington State Beach
north and south of it are operated by the State of
California Parks system. Lifeguards are actually
contracted from the Huntington Beach Lifeguards
program but the gate attendants are not city
employees at these other beaches.
