Museums and botanical gardens abound, yet there are also beach sports such as volleyball, skating, surrey rides, walking, jogging, and events throughout the year. You can hop aboard a yacht to see the whales off-coast, take a boat daily to the Channel Islands to explore, visit Cachuma Lake nearby for great bird watching and camping, or just stay in town for shopping. State Street is the mecca of shop-a-holism with dozens of eclectic stores featuring boutique style clothing, jewelry and gifts. In addition, the restaurants include a wide variety of ethnic foods ranging from the standard American faire to Indian, Mexican, Greek, Italian and more. Santa Barbara is an ideal vacation on its own. We like to stay there for around two or three days each time.
