San Luis Obispo, California Vacations


San Luis Obispo is the gateway to Central Coast Wine Country. Blessed with sunshine, cool ocean breezes and a great climate for farming, it is home to the Cal Poly University. Great hotels such as the AAA Four Diamond Apple Farm make this destination a fantastic vacation or road stop on journeys between Los Angeles and San Francisco. With a history as a vacation road stop, San Luis Obispo is home to the 1st Motel! While the Central Coast's biggest attraction is located 38 miles north at Hearst Castle, the pink Madonna Inn in "SLO" is well known for its outrageous color and themes. Closest, favorite beach hangout for students from the university is Avila Beach, a great option for beach vacations. Located 12 miles or 15 minutes distance, this San Luis Obispo County beach has not one but three piers and wharfs (one is closed to the public, however.) New hotels along the beach make this ideal for those meeting or attending events in San Luis Obispo. The inventory of hotels in the city is extensive, and we've some some really good deals in budget hotels next to pricier chain properties. When you see a cluster of four or five offerings, compare the prices. Sometimes the quality and offerings are minimal for the amount savings or expense you may invest in just a night's stay in San Luis Obispo.

There are some funky, cool things to do in SLO. One of the "must-see" attractions is Bubble Gum Alley. In addition to this outdoor wall filled with used gum deposits, museums include Mission San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County Historical Museum, a kids museum, an art museum and tons of contemporary shops reflecting youthful tastes and trends.
