San Diego, California Vacations

Orange County Disneyland

Southern California Chain hotels include urban environs in the heart of business centers such as downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Burbank and San Diego. But they also include beautiful beach resorts and affordable hotels ranging from five diamond resorts to boutique hotels. Chain hotels are hands-down, the favorite selections for travelers in SoCal. Why? With seven major theme parks in Southern California, people spend so much for admission fees that they prefer to save on the hotel rooms nearby, especially when they don't spend a lot of time in the room.

By no means should you think that there aren't some great, more expensive hotels and resorts in the chain hotel inventory. Hyatt Hotels, Hiltons, Marriotts and Ritz Carltons are a few of the properties that you may pay more for in the highly-desirable Southern California locations at or near beaches, or close to popular attractions and events. There's no rule of thumb on how to pick one, but we go by some guidelines that usually work. We stay with a three diamond rating or more (four or five), and if the hotel doesn't go by this sort of rating, then we call them and talk to the hotel owners to find out if the properties meet our needs, even doing site inspections before a stay sometimes. Basically, you usually get lucky because all in all, the chain hotels in Southern California hold to the corporate standards.
