InnLink Inns - Sacramento, CA's Vacations and Gold Country Trips
Sacramento, California Gold Vacations and Travel

California's Gold Country in the Central Californa Sierra Nevada foothills offers many small, historic hotels that do not feature online reservations. The remainder of hotels for us travelers seeking affordable accommodations are primarily budget chain hotel companies. The hotels range in the one, two and three diamond quality (out of five, with five being best), and as such, offer limited meeting space or restaurants on site. To put into perspecitve the Gold Country geography and social climate, this is California's top location of historic significance in the past several centuries. Gold was discovered in the Gold Country region, and people from around the world traveled to California before it even became a state of the U.S. They came to seek their fortunes either in the mining operations, or as business people selling food, tools and other products to miners.
For well 150 years California has sought to retain some of the historic places that offer glimpses into this important history responsible for the the formation of today's California. Unfortunately, the buildings are crumbling or are mostly gone, and as younger people move in from the concentrated bay area especially, the priorities are now in offering amenities, hotels and other things that the world traveler seeks. As such, several new resort style hotels and chain hotels have come into existence in the past few years, offering a small inventory of rooms that allow travelers to stay in the Gold Country comfortably.
While nothing can replace the experience of staying in Columbia State Historic Park's Fallon Hotel, which requires carrying your bags up a flight of stairs, sharing shower facilities, having no television, no Internet and no cell service (talk about traveling back in time!), there's a lot to be said for the beloved chain hotels of the Gold Country. These are the properties we eagerly seek out and stay at when available.
