Sacramento, California Vacations




Sacramento, voted best place for a first date, is home to the California State Capitol. Great hotels abound throughout the city and often you'll find a Starbucks Coffee or other gourmet coffee cafes nearby. Hyatt, Holiday Inn and Embassy Suites are three of the chain hotels within walking distance of the State Capitol and historic Old Sacramento. A train museum, Sutter's Fort, the Delta tours, and even wine tasting are all within reach of this Northern California gem.

You don't have to look far for things to do. Steeped in history, museums abound in the capitol city. Renamed by the Governor's wife, California Museum for History, Women and the Arts is a time capsule documenting women and their role in American households and society, in addition to other exhibits. One of the favorites that receives thousands of people almost daily is the California State Railroad Museum. Trains are beautifully restored and include actual, original trains, plus some awesome small model train exhibits. Towe Auto Museum is a huge building the size of an airplane hangar or larger, filled with classic automobiles of every shape and color, plus pre-auto vehicles. The docents at this museum are notable for their passion of the craft, and their love of classic cars shines through in the tours they offer.

There's so much to do in Sacramento, you really can spend a couple days exploring. Located near California's gold country, you can easily spend a week, in fact, wandering not only through the most popular haunts of Sacramento, but also nearby Roseville with the Maiu Indian Interpretive Center, Auburn, an historic gold country town, and Placerville, charming, authentic and extremely popular with Europeans seeking to connect with the American West.
