Morro Bay is known for The Rock. It is a land formation of a huge round-shaped rock that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. Formed by an ancient volcanic process, it is considered one of the Sisters in a series of rocks along this portion of the Central California Coast. Morro Bay features an often windy bay where boats are moored. Vacationers can kayak, take a boat cruise, and wander around the town for some souvenir shopping. Morro Bay offers more to see and do than San Simeon and is ideal as your overnight accommodation for visits to Hearst Castle which is north of the city by car. In Morro Bay, there's a state park for scenic hikes, and a beautiful public golf course overlooking the beach and ocean.
