Half Moon Bay, California Vacations


Half Moon Bay has beaches that range from wide, sandy beaches to the narrower formations shown in the photo of the Ritz Carlton. Home to Mavericks Big Wave Surfing Competition and the Pumpkin Festival, this funky beach town also enjoys a stunning Ritz Carlton Hotel on a golf course and cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you want beach-close or beachfront hotels, Half Moon Bay isn't exactly a best-kept secret since bay area folks know about it, but it sure is nice! When visiting, be prepard to do some driving. The hotels are located along the beach overlooking Pillar Point Harbor. While it's possible to walk, driving by car is the remmonded mode of travel here. A car will provide you access to the beautiful, scenic coast, great restaurant dining, and unique shopping in the quaint downtown village atmosphere.

Some of the most fun things to do in this seaside city include dining at places such as Mavericks with its own microbrewery, watch surfers (world class), take a ride along the beach horseback, or watch the sun set over the ocean. Exploring the surrounding area allows you access to a lighthouse, museums, beaches and San Francisco. While activities in Half Moon Bay may keep you entertained, this beach destination also provides a great home base for exploring the surrounding region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
