Chico, Vacation Travel
All along the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California you'll find limited hotels (except for cities such as Redding), but you'll discover that most the hotels are chain hotels, and that usually works to your favor. While prices are great compared to big city chain hotels of similar quality, during the peak summer season, supply and demand may drive up prices at some of the roadside hotels near Interstate Highway 5 that connects all of California with Oregon, not far from the Shasta Cascade. Oregon actually borders this part of the state. Chain hotels that are prominent in the Shasta Cascade northern Calif. region include Best Western, Courtyard by Marriott, Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Quality Inns, Residence Inn by Marriott, Super 8 Motels, Vagabond Inns, etc. Among the cities where you'll find the most chain hotels, Redding, Chico and Yreka are several. Often operated with a small town atmosphere, the service is generally very hands-on and complaints and problems are taken seriously. There's nothing in this entire region that has more than 150 to 300 rooms max, and for that, you'll find that the chain hotels are more manageable. When you visit, you'll usually find your hotel room is no more than three stories high, but it's often a first or second floor room or suite. Land is more available in this area of California and there's no need for highrise chain hotels at this point. You'll find that the instead of lowering your expectations, this area is a good place to raise expectations. Cities such as Redding are growing and building so many new chain hotel accommodations, that you find the competition and quality offerings are often above what you'd expect.
