Cayucos California Sunset over the Cauycos Pier is a magical scene any time of year. Gold, purple, pink, orange and every color of the rainbow may appear during this time of day when the sunlight fades. This view was taken from a hotel room in Cayucos.

The photo above showing a smooth sunset at Cayucos pier on California's central coast made use of a retainer wall for a makeshift tripod, thus allowing the photo to remain in focus while the water took on the smooth, almost blurry appearance of a timed exposure.

Cayucos, once the town somewhere north of Morro Bay and south of Cambria and San Simeon (Hearst Castle), once felt stunted in its growth. Water was an issue the local residents were unable to surmount.

But change, it must. And it appears that Cayucos is growing now.  Hotels are coming on line, shops and restaurants are offering pricier menus, often with a selection of wines, but there's one comfort that remains the same. The stunning Pacific Ocean framed by the Cayucos Pier continues to offer a timeless, beautiful scene that seems almost like a dream.

To put yourself in the shoes of the person standing here taking this vacation, you should know that the air is generally a bit nippy at night. Not far from this hotel is a creek where the frogs can raise really cut loose at night as the sun begins to set.  The town, itself, is a bit sleepy, and does not have a lot of entertainment at night. There are no movie theaters or the likes. A western-style saloon and some restaurants offer limited entertainment.

What you should do when visiting and staying in Cayucos is take an evening stroll, watching the sun go down. You can settle into a comfortable hotel room and often borrow a movie from their lending library, or catch something on TV.

The country charms remain in this neck of the woods, and beach that overlooks Morro Rock to the not-to-distant south.  A favorite of this pier is fishing. In California, all public piers permit free fishing...so it may not be a bad idea to try your hand at it. Whether summer or winter, you really should pack a jacket, however. The wind blows softly but can be cool and in the winter, it can cut through you.
