Cayucos, Calif. Family Explores Rocks on Central Coast
Cayucos, California on the windswept Central California Coast has
long been a getaway for families and couples. It's quiet, romantic
with the rock formations you can wander about, and offers a
spectacular view of Morro Rock. It
began as a wharf built in the 1870s
by Englishman James Cass. Cayucos
is a western-themed town with
a saloon, quaint shops, a pier and art galleries.
Also desirable about the location with its beach hotels is the
close proximity to Hearst Castle in San Simeon, and the boutique
filled streets of Cambria where there are some excellent "eats".
I once took a photo of this general location shown in the photo
above that was published with a feature on Cayucos in Sunset
magazine. It it a stunning setting for sunset pictures, but offers
can't fail scenery throughout the daylight hours for photography.
If you happen to be drive on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County
north of Pismo Beach, do veer off the road to visit this quaint town
that many would love to pack up and move to if they could afford it.
The beauty of vacations is that you can fall in love with a place
and return to it again and again, never quite getting enough.
Cayucos is one such vacation.
