Cascades Restaurant, 1420 E. Roseville
Pkwy., Roseville CA 95661 Call: (916) 788-9707
If you're looking
for flavorful faire in a menu that offers something out of the ordinary,
Cascades Restaurant may be your best bet for a tasty meal when visiting
Roseville and California's Gold Country. Roseville, once a sleepy town
outside of Sacramento, now is the cosmopolitan neighbor featuring food,
entertainment and arts. There are a number of great dining choices for fine
dining in Roseville but a special treat at Cascades is the smooth jazz
played several nights each week. Cascades is the ideal place to take a date,
to pamper your clients or to celebrate a special occasion. The warm
ambiance, tasty meals, great bar & wine list and live music all blend into
one delicious experience.
Starting with
appetizers such as the Dungeness Crab Cake with Fire Roasted Corn Salsa and
Avocado Lime Vinaigrette or Seared Diver Scallops & Prawns in Thai Curry
Sauce and Crisp Vegetables, the gourmet dishes are sometimes exotic and
usually complex. When you order a salad, for instance, you normally won't
receive a bowl of chopped iceberg. The mixed greens may include Candied
Walnuts, Shaft Bleu, Shaved Onion and a Citrus-Mustard Vinaigrette. Another
delicious offering is a Baby Spinach & Goats Cheese Salad with Crispy
Pancetta, Nicoise Olives, Roasted Shallot and Grape Vinaigrette. The
dressings do not overwhelm the ingredients in these great salad renditions.
Hearty meals such as Fettuccini with Sautéed Prawns, Organic Tomatoes,
Mushrooms and Pistachio Shrimp Cream melt in your mouth. Seafood doesn't get
much better than the Paella with Clams, Mussels, Prawns Chorizo, Chicken,
Fish, Peas, Roasted Pepper & Saffron Risotto. For the beef eater, life
doesn't get much better than the Australian Filet Mignon served with Potato
Gratin, Garden Vegetables, Blue Cheese Butter and Pinot Jus. Other great
options include Crispy Skin Duck Spiced Pears, Colorado Lamb Tagine or a
Double Cut Sterling Pork Chop.
When it's time for
dessert, you may have loosen your belt a notch but you can't forgo the
incredible, rich cheesecake or cobbler with a scoop of vanilla bean ice
cream perfection melting all over it.
Great chefs move
around in the restaurant business but when we dined at Cascades, Executive
Chef Stephen Sims was our hero. Combining his great preparations with Gold
Country wines and an excellent jazz trio that had diners putting down their
forks to applaud, a meal among friends at Cascades could not have been
finer. While the items mentioned here were available when this review
was written, menus change so you should check out the offerings and live
music schedule before you go. You can find it on line at
www.cascadesrestaurant.com.
What's especially nice about Cascades Restaurant is its location near
several popular hotels. Less than half a mile from the Residence Inn By
Marriott Roseville, Fairfield Inn By Marriott and Courtyard By Marriott
Roseville you can actually walk from the hotel to the restaurant for a great
lunch. Catering and special events functions can be arranged at this
upscale, casual dining venue.
Owned by restaurateur Keith Simpson,
Cascades staff, menu and decor reflect a level of quality and service you'd
expect from someone who's been in the business and knows how to market a
great product. Simpson also owns other restaurants and a catering company at
South Lake Tahoe, California.
