| Book collectors looking for that nugget of gold, postcards
from Aunt Martha's trip to California in 1966, china, knickknacks, collectibles
and more are inside the door of dozens of shops on State Street in downtown
Carlsbad. The Village of Carlsbad is several blocks of old time streets
with antiques shops interspersed among charming restaurants and gift shops.
Indoor and outdoor dining includes American style
hamburgers and french fries, fine Italian faire and high tea for the connoisseur.
Sit and enjoy the ambience, which includes the sound of trains passing
by on the railroad tracks behind the shops. For those living along
the Amtrak route and tourists visiting places such as Anaheim, the train
stops less than a block away and just three from the beach.
The antique district is two blocks from the beach with
most of the stores located on a two-block stretch of State Street between
Grand Avenue and Oak Street. (Take I-5 to the Carlsbad Village Drive exit
and go east about one mile to reach State Street.)
