CAPISTRANO BEACH, ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Looking south from Doheny Beach to Capistrano Beach with the
hills, sand beaches and ocean that seem to stretch forever, it's understandable why locals think this special portion of the Orange County, California  coastline is best kept unpublicized.  Capistrano Beach is one of those great beaches that offers a friendly, small town atmosphere. Unlike the wide and sandy beaches to the north in Newport and Huntington Beach, this area's beaches are generally narrower stretches at the base of hills and cliffs. South Orange County is also a bit further from the big theme park draws, Disneyland and Universal Studios. Tourists on 3-day trips don't have time to explore the California coast and tend to pick the closest beaches to the parks.

Capistrano Beach has great sand for volleyball, basketball and other beach activities. During the summer months, a concession building offers fishing gear rental and sales, food and beverages, and beach supplies. Public restrooms, outside showers, seven volleyball courts, a basketball court with lighting and fire rings are offered. A paved parking lot for 140 cars is provided.

Capistrano Beach Park was opened to the public in 1980. The result of an agreement between the Orange county Harbors, Beaches and Parks District and the Jack G. Raub Company in 1977 delegated the Jack G. Raub Company responsibility in preparing a General Development Plan and contract document for Capistrano Beach Park. Included in that plan were a variety of amenities to make the beach more user friendly.

For convenience to the public a concessionaire is at Capistrano Beach during the summer months offering cold drinks, ice cream, candy and other food items. There are also surf boards, roller blades and bicycles available for rent.

Location & Hours - Capistrano Beach is located approximately 2 miles south of Dana Point Harbor in Capistrano Beach at Pacific Coast Highway and Beach Road.
