Freedom Family White Poinsettia pictured
above is one of America's top-selling
poinsettias. This early-season variety and
most forgiving series, can be manipulated
with light or grown cool to slow
development.

The white
poinsettia really isn't the purest white.
It's more of a yellow color in the photos
and actual plants we've seen. But when you
put it next to a red poinsettia or other
plants in a flower bed, it is lovely.
One of California's most popular holiday
plants (that some think is a flower), the
poinsettia grows abundantly and is quite
healthy in Southern California's temperate
climate especially. The largest grower
in the USA is located in San Diego County,
in fact. The Ecke Farms grows poinsettias
for the holiday season, providing plants to
a large portion of the population, even
though poinsettias can be grown in
greenhouses in any state.
When
visiting a friend, you can drop by nearly
any grocery store or convenience store
during the holidays and pick up a poinsettia
potted plant to offer as a gift. It's
hard to have too many, as they can be strewn
around gardens, on porches, patios and just
about any place you can imagine.
The price
of a recent potted plant on a Thanksgiving
special sold for around $5 - 6. And a large,
luscious, colorful poinsettia potted plant
with the gold or red foil wrap sold for
under $20.
