California Adventure
Travel continued
Mavericks is only accessible during the Big Wave Contest to an
elite, hand-picked crowed of about 25 of the top athletes in the surfing
world. But In the same bay, adventure travelers can kayak with the
outfitters from a Half Moon Bay Kayak Company. Guided tours, hourly and
half or full day rentals all provide for an adventure that's more than
the armchair experience you only read about when sitting at your
computer. It hits the spot for up to a million folks along the
California coast who
kayak in every bay from San Diego's Mission Bay to Catalina Island's
Avalon Bay,
Newport
Beach China Cove, Huntington Harbour and
Sunset
Beach, Alamitos and
Naples Bays in Long Beach, Venice, Shell Beach, and Capitola by the
Sea. Therese are but a few places to enjoy. If you have an extra day,
check out Channel
Island kayaking, set up by Island Packers out of Ventura or Oxnard.
Talk about beautiful waters!
These islands (5 or so islands) that make
up the national marine sanctuary of channel islands include dynamic
and diverse environments where kayakers and hikers are sure to see seals,
sea lions, brown pelicans and the habitat where seagulls raise their
young. Travelers to the region can also soar as free as a
bird over the California coast with tandem hang gliding rides in the San
Francisco area.
In Humboldt County
and the Northern Redwood Coast, kayakers will discover year-round
entertainment and adventure at Klamath River. It's known as a wild
river by California's standards, and has Class 2 and 3 challenges
(mid-range.) The lower Klamath River arrives at the Pacific Ocean near the town
of Klamath, a getaway in rugged, sometimes environs where big trees
surround you as you glide through the paces. Beware the Devil’s Toenail and Dragon’s Tooth
may get you....More
