Northern
California Snow Ski Ski
Resort Areas, CA Ski Resorts
When you drive through Northern
California, or fly into Redding, there's a mesmerizing mountain
you'll see in the distance. It's defined peak makes it unmistakable,
and it often can be seen with snow that paints it white. Mt. Shasta
is one of several mountain ranges in the area, and it offers the
ideal ski vacation. We love to point travelers toward other
attractions in addition to the California beach travel guide ideas.
So why not hop on a flight into Redding Airport where you can rent a
car and drive 60 miles to Mt. Shasta? In the winter, there's skiing,
cross country skiing, snowmobiling and even dogsled rides. For a
dogsled guide, expert operator / musher Pat Campbell has years of
experience in the business and offers a 1-hour tour that's
delightful. The Dog Sled Express operates under a Special Use Permit
by the USDA Shasta Trinity Ranger District. Contact Pat Campbell

Now let's get down to the serious skiing. Mt. Shasta Ski Park
(skipark.com) shown in the pictures above offers 32 trails
with 55% intermediate and 25% advanced. 3 triple chairs, 1 rope tow,
1 conveyor lift, and night skiing on 14 trails are offered.
The park claims it gets 275 inches of annual snowfall. For the
snowboarders and tricks riders, two terrain parks give you the hits,
jibs, rails and an Adrenaline Pipe, plus special jam weekends and
days with contests and celebrations. Base Elevation 5,500 Feet;
Summit Elevation 6,890 Feet. Mt. Shasta has something really
cool, a satisfaction guarantee. If you aren't happy with the conditions or skiing, they'll
give you your money back within an hour of your visit.
Other diversions include some of
the finest ice fishing in California at Castle Lake. Large
rainbow trout are easier to catch in the winter, and you sometimes
may not need an ice auger to get a hole for fishing. Another
outdoor winter sports activity at Castle Lake is snowshoeing.
Getting there:
Travel north or south on Interstate 5 from Redding and points south.
Take Exit 136 onto Hwy 89. On Hwy 89 drive 6 miles east, on summit
turn left into Ski Park Hwy and drive 7 miles to the resort.
