San Mateo's Peninsula
Ballet Theatre Dance Company Nutcracker Ballet
San Mateo's
Peninsula Ballet Theatre Dance Company offers a
beautifully-staged and colorfully-costumed Nutcracker
that audiences enjoy each year.
Peninsula Ballet Theatre prides itself on being the second oldest
professional dance company in the Bay Area. In fact, the ballet company
is the largest employer of professional theatre artists in the Bay Area
(dance artists, musicians and production staff). It performs in venues
throughout the Bay Area and East Bay, delighting audiences since its
formation in 1967. The ballet school was founded by Dick Ford and
Richard Gibson and in 1971 under new directorship, formed a permanent
company that has grown to permanent staff of five full time equivalents.
In 1999, our volunteer auxiliary produced the first Annual Sugar Plum
Ball as a primary fundraiser. Permanent professional dancers were hired
and a 45 piece orchestra was added to its Nutcracker production around
2000.
In the fall of 2004 Michael Lowe joined PBT as the Artistic Director,
and Carlos Carvajal was Choreographer, Director Emeritus.
Artistic
directors, Michael Lowe and Mario Alonzo, the live orchestra (conductor
Chris Christensen) and the heart-warming feel of this professional dance
performance makes Peninsula Ballet Theatre season a visual splendor from
first curtain rise to final curtain call. The season begins with the
traditional classic ballet The Nutcracker by Director Emeritis, Carlos
Carvajal. peninsulaballet.org Performances can be seen in
several venues in Pittsburg, CA & San Mateo Performing Arts Center, San
Mateo, CA
