SAN JUAN BAUTISTA - California Indian Market and Peace Pow Wow is an annual event to celebrate peace. Native American Indian culture, festive costumes, products, art and a variety of goods and services are all explored in the 24th annual celebration held at Mission San Juan Bautista. Held 2 days, May 3 & 4, 2008, a ceremony opens the event at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 3 with Kanyon Sayers honoring our ancestors with prayer.

Organized by a renown local artist from San Juan Bautista, Elayne da Silva-Reyna aka “Laynee Reyna” or Bluebird Woman, this visionary who's worked in many careers and helped many people through service as a military medic during wartime, private pilot and member of the Flying Doctors, who assist people in need of medical help in other countries, volunteering their time and services, has also been a spiritual counselor to help people through their grief and issues that hold them back from living life to its fullest.

Reyna formed the non-profit One Earth, One People, Peace Vision, Inc. to help empower people to restore honorable and respectful relationships through understanding that all life is sacred and interconnected. She won a silver medal/second place in the 2003 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival for her portrait of prophet “Medicine Song Woman- Bernice Torrez”, Kashaya-Pomo California Indian, and daughter of renowned Shaman Woman, Essie Parrish, and donates proceeds from fund-raising events such as the California Indian Market and Peace Pow Wow to bring art into the lives of youth with supplies and instruction.
