THE SCIENCE OF GINGERBREAD: Science in Every Bite!
The Science of Gingerbread at
Discovery Science Center in
Southern California features over a month of fun celebrating gingerbread.
From baking it to building it, gingerbread is an annual tradition Americans
embrace as part of the holiday season each Christmas. Inside the kitchen,
much more is going on than pouring and mixing – it’s science at work! How
many gumdrops can a frosted cookie hold? Why do some recipes call for baking
powder instead of baking soda? Discovery Science Center's Science of
Gingerbread exhibition, features hands-on kitchen science activities,
decorating demonstrations and award-winning gingerbread houses on display.
Who knew science could be so tasty?
As Discovery Science Center, the
passion for gingerbread is brought "home" to children who have hands-on
opportunities to build gingerbread structures, then enter them into a
contest. An annual exhibit about gingerbread is offered at Orange County,
California's premier learning center for children and youth. Open daily
except Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Discovery Science Center is exciting
and inviting. A state-of-the-art facility with its
unique entry and 10-story solar Cube lit with fiber optics offer visually
exciting surroundings for the displays. If you haven't visited before, the
holidays are a great time when the kids are off school to visit Santa Ana's
shining star.
The Science of Gingerbread features a
Gingerbread contest each year with cash prizes, and a display of the
enticing, icing-coated candy homes, chapeaus, cathedrals and even a Zamboni
ice machine, all made from the creative minds of those who have ventured
into the Discovery Science Center. Call 714-542-2823 or visit
