Wow, what a
beautiful renovation Southbay Pavilion has experienced. Shown in
the photo above is an entry to the renovated shopping mall.
Ample use of custom stone and glass have really created a new
look and feel to the once worn indoor mall.
Southbay
Pavilion is huge and rambling, and on any day of the year
(except major holidays), you'll see thousands of people
streaming in and out of one the anchor stores, Ikea. In addition
to the furnishing discount place, there are major anchors such
as Sears, Target and J.C. Penney's. Visible from the San Diego
Freeway near Harbor Freeway, the shopping center offerings are
mostly proven success businesses such as food chains, big box
outlets, and phone and wireless stores, bakeries and other shops
the public seeks.
Located in
the heart of Carson, Southbay Pavilion is quite popular. We
visited on a holiday, and the cars just kept coming, even though
many shops were closed. Maybe like us, the were passing by
and window shopping to see what the place featured. After
driving around the entire complex, I decided I would need to
return on a non-holiday. Just the new look, itself, makes you
want to stop and shop, even if you are not that keen on
shopping.
Other points of interest include
Southbay Pavilion, a shopping mall with JC Penney, a Food Court
with all the regular fast food snacks such as Wetzel Pretzel and
Mrs Fields Cookies. Head outside the mall and you'll find a
parking lot crop of great chain eateries such as Tony Roma's,
Chili's and Panda Express (at the mall).
A great place
to stop and pick up what you need or to eat when visiting,
Carson is the heart of oil refinery business in L.A. As
such the air can sometimes be pungent, though most days it is
OK.
One of the
most diverse populations live in Carson with nearly an equal mix
of Caucasians and Afro-Americans, and a smaller, yet fair
contingent of Asians. When you visit the mall, you'll see that
nearly equal mix represented in the shopping profile.
