There's absolutely no finer place to celebrate the past
than the Gold Country foothills of Auburn, which hosts the annual Cane's
Crossing Renaissance Faire in the spring when everything's green. Cheer
dueling swordfighters in a replica of an English town circa year 1592,
where the arrival of Queen Elizabeth at Cain's Crossing is celebrated
with music, song, dining, and commerce at a typical village along an
historic trade route. Attendees are invited to dress as a Renaissance
era citizen, and take on the persona of an historic character, known or
created from your imagination.
The event—a fundraiser for education—includes buxom
maidens, bellydancers of the Ottoman Empire, silver tongued scoundrels, dashing
swordfighters from the Diamond Rose Academie and a magician, who the gossiping ladies-in-waiting at the House of Swindon
no doubt have something to say about.
From adult fun with ale on hand, to
kids' activities in the glen, the wooded hills of Auburn wake up to
spring with laughter and merriment. For the price of admission you gain
access to the village arts and crafts, the entertaining acts, and the
fact that you're part of a community event allows you to step not only
into an era, but into the hearts and minds of the Gold Country
residents, some who have lived in the region since they were born,
sharing passion for history and keeping it alive.
